SIG 2: Emerging Technologies

Main focus
The Emerging Technologies SIG promotes the educational benefits of ICT and the development of classroom methods based on the upcoming newer technologies such as mobile learning devices, broadband Internet connections, online audio broadcasting and streaming media by

• sharing information (What are these technologies, who is providing which services and tools; examples of good practise on the pedagogical use of streaming media and mobile learning devices, how can they support Comenius projects)
• enhancing cooperation (fostering both cooperation between educational institutions and companies and transnational cooperation between interested schools);
• organising training (national and transnational workshops).

Target groups
Target groups of this SIG are:

• teachers of primary and secondary schools
• teacher educators
• school administrators
• scientists
• media companies.

Activities

• sharing information and news over SIG website;
• disseminating recent scientific and educational research findings;
• 2002/2003 setting up of a cooperation with companies providing services and tools, development of educational concepts and a tool kit (technical tools and services/educational concepts);
• promoting cooperation using the SIG communication board and website;
• offering ICT tools and services;
• disseminating examples of good practice;
• organizing events;
• interacting via the SIG website communication area;
• arranging one or two workshops on Streaming Media and Mobile Learning Devices;
• offering seminars to National Agencies;

Training of Upper Austrian head teachers on how to use a whiteboard and other visualization tools 1 or 2 workshops “Streaming media and mobile learning devices” (promotion of kit) for COMENIUS teachers (other teachers are not excluded) in Austria, and if possible/requested, in the partnercountries implementation in spring 2003 and afterwards Contact seminar in autumn 2003 – setting up of transnational school partnerships using tools/services/implementing (innovating) educational concepts
