SIG 1: Synchronous and asynchronous communication

Main focus
The purpose of the Asynchronous & Synchronous Communications SIG is to offer Comenius schools and teachers background information that will help them to start or develop their ICT-related projects. There are two main ways to collaborate online:

Synchronous (simultaneous) Communication

• Chat
• Videoconferencing
• NetMeeting / IP videoconferencing (software based or equipments)

Asynchronous (not simultaneous) Communication

• E-mail, mailing lists
• Bulletin boards (closed forum; database and dialog)
• Collaborative working spaces
• Guest books

Target group

• primary and secondary schools

Activities

• sharing general guidelines for various types of collaboration and offering basic guidelines for project-work communication;
• disseminating good communication practices;
• providing a database (knowledge base) and links to regional/national lists of users of videoconferencing facilities.
